Assignment #1 [OBJECTIFIED: RESPONSE]

[01.) OBJECTIFIED: RESPONSE]

In response to Gary Hustwit`s documentary Objectified, I was fascinated by all the different perspectives and what each designer perceived good design as, the ideas held similar principles but seemed to all differ, and noticed it was based on the individual’s value.

The idea for my project stemmed from what Marc Newson said in his interview what I want to do is to be able to have things that don’t exist, things that you can’t go out and buy. The sentence spoke to me as I have been having difficulties when shopping and searching for products. The things that I want don't seem to exist.

Currently, I am on a hunt for furniture, I am very into having little to no stuff in my room, but at the same time find myself needing all sorts of stuff that take up a lot of space, with that in mind I wanted to create an item that would have various functions and compartments that would not take up much space. I was inspired by Tiny Living and single-room apartments, I created a bed that can function as a couch and can store a small-sized table and storage.

I decided the piece of furniture to make be a bed because it is an item most people everyone owns, and it takes up most of the space in a bedroom. As people who live in one-bedroom apartments need to compromise for the lack of space, I created a bed that can function as a couch when friends come over, a medium-size table that can function as a nightstand or coffee table, along with small storage.

View of bed, with all functions hidden.

The table can slide out and detach from the bed and stand alone, and it has foldable legs.

The bed as a couch, the back of the couch is stored under and can be pulled out and attached.
